Francesca Boncompagni was born in Arezzo in 1984. After graduating in violin in Siena’s “Istituto pareggiato Rinaldo Franci” with the highest degree in 2005, she began her formal vocal training in Florence with Donatella Debolini and later on with Alessio Tosi, Lia Serafini, Sara Mingardo and Manuela Custer.
In 2007 she attended William Christie’s baroque Academy “Le Jardin des Voix” and performed in the documentary “Baroque Académie” produced and broadcast by Channel France 3, and edited in DVD by BelAir Classique in 2011.
In 2008 she won the first prize in the baroque singing competition “Francesco Provenzale” in Naples, organized by “Centro di Musica Antica Pietà dei Turchini”.
She has sung alongside Collegium Vocale Gent, Les Arts Florissants, les Musiciens du Louvre, Accademia Bizantina, Concerto Italiano, Cappella Mediterranea, Divino Sospiro, Cappella della Pietà dei Turchini/Cappella Neapolitana and Modo Antiquo, and with such conductors as Philippe Herreweghe, William Christie, Paul Agnew, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Ottavio Dantone, Francesco Corti, Leonardo Garcìa Alarcon, Francesco Cera, Vanni Moretto, Stefano Montanari, Gianluca Capuano and Frans Brüggen.
In 2014 she sang the role of Amore in Claudio Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea” in a tour in Japan with the ensemble La Venexiana conducted by Claudio Cavina.
In 2017 she performed roles in each opera from Monteverdi’s Trilogy and Vespers for the Monteverdi 450 celebrations, in Europe and in the United States, with the Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner and directed by Elsa Rooke; this long tour won in 2018 the prestigious Royal Philarmonic Society Award.
In 2018 she performed the role of Euridice in Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” in Torino’s Teatro Regio, with the conductor Antonio Florio and the stage director Alessio Pizzech. In the same year she performed in Florence the main role of Dafne in the opera “La Dafne” by Marco da Gagliano, in the 81st Opera Festival of Maggio musicale fiorentino, with the conductor Federico Maria Sardelli and the stage director Gian Maria Aliverti.
In 2019 she performed her first Mozart’s role, Costanza in “Il sogno di Scipione” at the Malibran Theater in Venice, with the conductor Federico Maria Sardelli and the stage director Elena Barbalich.
Francesca Boncompagni has performed in many of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, like Cité de la Musique, Philarmonie, Salle Pleyel and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Grand Théâtre in Aix-en-Provence, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Philarmonie in Berlin, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Konzerthaus in Wien, Felsenreitschule in Salzburg, Tonhalle in Zurich, Fundacion Gulbenkian in Lisboa, Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, National Opera in Bucarest, Lutoslawski Hall in Warsaw, Barbican Center, Buckingham Palace and Royal Albert Hall in London, Palazzetto Bru Zane, Teatro Malibran and Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Bunka Kaikan and Opera City in Tokyo, J.F.Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Memorial Center in S. Francisco, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York.
She has a wide-ranging discography through such labels as Pentatone, Phi, Clc, Alpha, Arcana, Virgin Classics, Brilliant Classics, France Musique, Stradivarius, Soli Deo Gloria and Sony Deutsche Harmonia Mundi. The recording of “Werke für Chor und Orchester” by J.Brahms for the label Phi with Philippe Herreweghe won the Editor’s Choice Award 2012 on Gramophone Magazine, and the Choral&Song Choice Award 2012 on BBC Music Magazine; the DVD of “Armide” by J.B.Lully for the label FRA Muisca with William Christie and Robert Carsen got in 2012 five stars on BBC Music Magazine; the recording of “Die Jahreszeiten” by F.J.Haydn for the label Phi with Philippe Herreweghe won in 2014 five stars on the magazine Classic Voice; “Mattutino de’ Morti” by D.Perez for the label Sony Deutsche Harmonia Mundi with Giulio Prandi got also five stars in 2014 for the magazine Classic Voice; “Stabat Mater” by L.Boccherini for the label Brilliant Classics with Ensemble Symposium got in 2016 five stars on the magazine Amadeus; and “L’amoroso e crudo stile” by L.Marenzio for the label Arcana with Rossoporpora Ensemble, conducted by Walter Testolin, got in 2018 five stars and the prize “Recording of the month” on the magazine Classic Voice, five stars on the magazine Musica and five diapasons on the magazine Diapason.
